It's possible the VIN was just misread. Possibly an extra digit or missing one or confusing a G with a 6, an I with a 1 (there are no I's in VINs) or a 0 and an O (there are no Os either), very common and easy to do.
A VIN has a formula, you can't just make one up. The formula triggers a check digit, that is certain parts of the VIN determine other parts.
Gimmie the VIN and I'll check it out. Do you have any other docs with the VIN on it?
