Gator,
Thanks for your experience. I think I am stuck with the broadcast rather than wired signal to the antenna lead. I went back to the dash, once again (have attempted this many times over the last few years) this evening, with radio removal tool and a collection of spatulas and other implements of destruction. The SID comes out easily -- have had it repaired twice now. The bracket for the cup holder was left in for this attempt since it was pretty dark. Once again the radio chassis, firmly and hard, stops about two inches out of the dash. This is not interference with wiper stalk or any other control on the steering column. This is some piece of metal on the chassis or the radio rack seriously hanging up. I really do not know what to do about the radio other than tear the center tower apart to get at it from the bottom or rear. That is definitely not worth it at this point.
So, I guess I do the FM trasmitter bit and then put the Direct unit on the shelf for now.
And, I do do long trips. So, I anticipate that the frequency will have to be changed from time to time. I guess I'll find out how much of a pain that will be over a 360 mile route.
Thanks again.
DER
