1995 V6 Head bolts..are they tight or what?

I'm trying to get the heads off my 1995 Saab SE V6 engine. I tried a 3/8 drive T55 torx, and already broke 2 3/8 extensions and a 3/8 ratchet. I'm going to buy a 1/2 drive T55 tomorrow if I can find one.
How tight are these things? Are the specs I found incorrect? They say 18 Ft.pounds, and another 90 + 90 + 90 (3/4 of a turn)degrees in sequence. It seems to me that these bolts are considerably tighter.
QUESTION? Are the specs I have (18 Ft pounds + 90, 90, 90 degrees in sequence) correct? If not what are the correct torque specs for the 1995 V6 engine?
Thanks..Jim
