Brake issue - master cylinder or booster or ?

Over the last few months (4+?), I seem to be experiencing some brake fade after the car sits for several hours. At first it had to be at least a couple days; now, I feel it after an 11-hour day at work.
The first few times I hit the brakes, I just don't have much stopping power. It's snuck up on me a few times and I've had a couple close calls at stop signs or in the work parking lot. I end up jamming the hell out of the brakes to get the beast to stop. The pedal goes moderately far down, but doesn't really "sink to the floor" like I might expect from a master cylinder.
After that, or after I pump it a few times (preventively), it's much more responsive. I thought master cylinder; my dad thought it might be the power brake booster. Both are expensive to just replace to see what happens.
Thanks, Derek / 1994 900 S V6 / 175,000mi
