It sounds like a lot of bang for the buck. I bought a '98 with 118,000 on it two years ago and absolutely love the car. It's by far the most reliable Saab I've ever owned, and I've had a bunch. One of the dangers of a board like this is that we hear most from the "problem children" and so you tend to think every car has this set group of problems (DIC, Sludge, head re-torque issues etc). It's much more likely a small minority that have all of those problems. You might get one, the other or none at all. As best I can tell, my car still has the original DIC at 140K, has never had the head re-torqued, and no sludge issues. I spent 5 years as a car dealer speicializing in imported cars of all kinds under $5,000. I can tell you categorically that ALL cars (including Hondas & Toyotas) have problems as they age, many of them a lot worse than the the so called problem areas that NG900/9-3 supposedly have. This model Saab has been pretty well sorted out and is probably about the cheapest European car you can own (considerably cheaper to own than VW's even). With the help of this board and a little elbo grease on your part, I'd say it's every bit as cheap to own as a comparible Acord/Camry.
