Dimming lights/fluctuating idle... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Fri, 7 Dec 2007 06:53:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, everyone. About two or three months ago, my car started experiencing some rather unusual problems. Everything seems to be going well until the car warms up. Then, when the car is warm and idling, all of the electronics (lights, odometer, etc.) will dim for half a second or so and then brighten back up. This will continue in a fairly predictable pattern for a few seconds. I've never experienced this problem while actually driving...just while the car is idling in the driveway, at a stoplight, etc. When the lights dim, the car will idle down a little bit, too.
Sometimes the lights dim more than other times and the car will also idle down more than other times. The car has yet to die on me from this problem, but I'm a little antsy since the problem seems to be getting worse. All I can figure is the alternator, which was replaced about three years ago...probably about 35,000 - 40,000 miles ago.
I've explained this problem as best I know how, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information or if something isn't clear. I greatly appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance, drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
