I'm trying to have a remote starter installed on a '96 900SE (Christmas present gone horribly wrong). I had one installed on my '95 9000 with no problems, so I figured this should be easy.

The issue is with the stock alarm system. On my 9000, the shop was able to interface the stock alarm with the new system. On this car, the shop is telling me that's impossible. Consequently, the alarm no longer works on the car. In other words, if the car is locked with the stock alarm fob, it won't start remotely unless it is unlocked with the stock fob. If it is unlocked with the new system's fob, the alarms goes off and the car won't start. Accordingly, if the car is locked with the new fob, the alarm won't arm.

I know this should be possible, but I can't figure out what's going on. Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
