Hi, I'm looking for some repair information for my manual transmission. I have a 1997 900SE turbo. I bought the car with a bad clutch release bearing, and was forced to drive it with no clutch for the entire winter. About a week before I was able to fix the clutch, I did something to the shift for for third and fourth gear; I'm guessing broke a pin or whatever it is that holds the fork in place on the shift rod. I'm wondering if anybody who has some experience with these transmissions could give me some advice. I'd like to fix the transmission myself, but I've never worked on a transmission before; I am a highly experienced DYI'er though, I've been doing major repairs for nearly 18 years. I did talk to a local shop about it, he took it for a ride, and confirmed that my linkage was in proper adjustment; he told me he would do a bench job if I brought him the transmission, and open it up to find the problem, and would only charge me labor and parts for the actual repair. The best price I've found on a salvage transmission is $800, so I don't think that would be the best route.
