The crank position sensor (CPS) went out on my 2000 9-3 last fall and the symptoms were like yours, but definitely heat related...meaning it would start fine when the engine was cold, seem to run fine, but would sometimes die if idling for long at a stop light. Either way, once it died, or if I stopped somewhere and then tried to start again when the engine block was still hot, it would crank, but not start. Let the engine cool down for 30-45 minutes, and it would start again. Had the CPS replaced and it cleared up the problem. Its about an $80 part + labor to install. It's not too hard to get to from under the car...harder to reach from the top since it is down on the side of the engine block.
