Fuel pump removal, to cut or not to cut

My fuel pump needs to be replaced in my 1999 9-3 and I am quite disappointed that Saab did not design in an access hole through the floor. I was just bragging to my son that all Saabs have them. After reading numerous postings I am planning on using my sheet metal snips and make a hole. I do not see how the hole will structurally hurt the car but I want to make sure. I see no reason not to unless someone can help me understand otherwise. Any comments are appreciated, ToddH
