Sounds like you have the right disgnosis in the serp belt (not timing, as mattias points out). Oddly enough, I kind of know what you mean by cilantro smell. Assuming you didn't leave a burrito in there, it's worth checking of some vegetation got jammed in one of the pulleys and that smell is from its disintegration in the pulleys. I had a rat stuck in there. Fun!
