IIRC, the same small rubber elbow that drains the a/c evap. also is where the coolant will leak from if the core is leaking. The larger rubber drain, a/k/a "elephant trunk" drains rainwater from the cowl under the wipers. The heater core in my 1995 900S developed a leak about a year ago. I removed the core and since it looked to be in otherwise good condition, I had the leak repaired by a local radiator shop for $45. As far as heater core replacements go, you'll be hard pressed to find a modern car with one that's easier to replace than the 900's. Basically, the center console and the side console shrouds need to be removed. The core is behind the storage compartment beneath the heater controls. The only other possibility for coolant coming from the drain hose would be leakage at the o-rings that connect to the heater core. Either way, the labor is the same. The connections you see at the firewall are the ends of the pipes that connect to the core, not the core itself.
