Mike,
Just came across your May '08 posting re: engine knock and wondering if you ever found the problem. My '01 has 75K and started with a knock down low in the block. Dealer found that the oil pickup was "carbonized" and engine was oil starved. He speculated that the knock is due to bearing damage but that doesn't sound right to me. Car still runs strong months later and does not burn oil. Just knocks like a diesel under any engine load. Don't hear the knock at warm idle or highway speeds (or according to my daughter when the radio is on!). Appreciate any comments from anyone. ED
