serpentine belt questions

Hi all, neww to this model saab - 1997 2.3 900s, manual so bear with me.
I blew the serpentine belt at 75K - was at a light when it happened so it wasn't really violent and no overheating. The upper mini pulley had worn out.
I've searched the archives but the approach varys by models, year and # of cyl
Question is this- do I need to "orient" any pulleys ( much like a timeing chain/belt)to some mark on the block etc before I mount/thread the new belt on??? My pal thinks I do. But I wonder how it could keep its positioning after allowing the tensioner to load and then there's the stretching that happens with belts.
I read about using a 1/2 socket entension to lever the tensioner into a "retrieved"position (I think I need an 8MM hex wrench to hold it position - not sure where it gets inserted ;< .
2nd question - when(what mileage) would one normally replace the tensioner pulley.
Thanks in advance.
