Does this sound like the alternator?

I put a new battery in my '99 9-3 about 2 weeks ago. A week and a half after getting it, the car was dead as a doornail out of nowhere. I jumped it, and car was fine for a few days, and now dead as a doornail again. There was no degradation of the battery's starting power over time. The previous start was perfect, and then the next time, like 5 hours later, it was completely dead. Both times were like that. Dead as a doornail after sitting for a few hours or overnight, when it started very quickly the previous time.
Thanks for any advice/tips!!
Alex
