Take the cables off the battery and then unbolt the positive cables from the starter and alternator but don't remove them from the car.
Next take some sand paper of medium grit and go over the terminals on the battery, the terminals on the cable, and the terminals for the alternator and starter. The point is to clean off any corrosion which may have been building up and causing you all sorts of problems.
Before you hook up the alternator, starter, and battery make sure to coat all the terminals with some di-electric grease. All of that shouldn't take more then 20 minutes to do.
If you still have problems then go get the battery tested and if it comes out good then you'll need a new alternator. Unless the alternator or voltage regulator completely fails you don't get the battery light.
