Howdy folks.
Looks like my second round of NG900 ownership is looking to last even less time than the first!
My girlfriend was driving the car on Thurs or Friday when she noticed a high-pitched whine that changes with engine speed. See my short belt mod/alternator post a few threads down.
Investigated the issue today, first by removing serp belt. Noise still present. OK, it's engine related then.
Next, removed the valve cover to look for any recognizable signs, especially the upper chain guide on the underside of the valve cover. Again, no signs of issues.
Buttoned everything up, and driving home, ding dong, oil pressure light on. Solid, not flickering, no tendency to get less solid with engine revs.
I checked, and the connector is solidly in place on the oil pressure switch (which I replaced a couple weeks ago).
Looks to me like no escape, engine is dead.
Pity I spent all that money on new rotors and pads, plus a whole new set of turbo rims and brand new tires. Ugh!
Maybe something I disturbed in my poking around today created the loss of pressure? I did notice I'd forgotten to reseat the PCV nipple in the valve cover for the drive home, but I can't believe this has anything to do with oil pressure. I can't count how many 9000s with this same setup I've driven with bad or missing PCV valves (however briefly) with no problem.
I say this car is terminal. Gonna ditch it right quick, unless someone has any bright ideas what might trip up the oil switch other than crappy oil pressure?
...Assuming the other shoe has dropped, I'll be putting up this nice set of wheels and tires for anyone that might be looking. Sigh.
