A broken transmission mount on an automatic will be most noticeable when first putting the car in Drive, and when starting from a halt. You will hear a clunk and probably feel it as well. Just so happens this mount is on the front left side, near the wheel.
To check your mount, pop the hood and then put the car in Drive while holding on the brakes. Give it a bit of gas and watch the engine...if you see it jump, your mount is toast. You may also be able to visually inspect the mount from below, if the splash shields aren't in the way - mine was quite clearly sheared in two.
You can get an aftermarket part for around $45 from eEuroparts, and it's not difficult to replace. The only tricky part is that the bolts may be difficult to loosen, and two of them are awkward to get to - I used a U-joint adapter for my ratchet. See the link below for pictures (not mine).
