I agree, I can't even fathom spending $1000 for this job. I'm pretty sure you can buy the control arms for about $150, and they come with new bushings. If you did decide to upgrade to poly bushings, which last MUCH LONGER than rubber bushings, you'd still only be looking at another $100 or so. If you have any DIY experience, this job is only slightly more difficult than a brake job. I replaced my bushings a few months ago in a couple hours.
Even if you did have a shop do this, I still don't understand why it should cost $1000. List price on the control arms should be about $300 each for SAAB OEM and labor should be 3 hours or less, which should put the job at around $850 on the high end.
