When it is at rest, I am able to manually pull forward on the throw out lever another one inch. After doing this I turn on the engine in neutral and the modest scraping I heard is gone. I throw in the pedal and I hear "very" slight chafing. So it is better - maybe just a clutch cable and its internal spring replacement ?????
Question: was there or should there be a spring connected to the front side end of the lever to fully relax the t/o bearing??? if not Is the clutch cable spring loaded in a manner to effect this full release and something inside the bell is impairing it?????
There's not a "push pivot" point (on the aft side of the lever where the cable mates up- just the end cable button but that's on the front side of the lever )there's nothing on that to push the lever full forward and presently no visible constraint to forward movement of the lever.
I gather there's a retracting spring within the clutch cable but appears loose enough not to restrict the lever's full forward relaxed position. Is there a spring in side the t/o bearing that's gotten "tired" and not helping it fully extend and push the lever forward enough. I had thought the t/o bearing was more like a trailer wheel race "pushed into action" by the turning of the lever.
I shot some WD40 on the lever pivot and it moves somewhat free-er I suppose I can (per your post)put some lithium grease on the extended t/o bearing to help it release but it seems to me like a spring on the front side of the lever is missing.
