Thanks for the posts- been doing alot of reading here on the NG and agree the old 900 was a 1 beer job compared to the NG "case"- (alot of tranny engine support compared to slide out thru the rad area on the '86) Saw posts about lubing the bearing thru the bell "window" but, clutch plate issues aside , not sure if I want the wife to have issues if it (bearing)goes south anyway. I see the kit to hydraulic is extra $450 or so if I do have the shop do it its gonna be pretty steep. I was thinking that perhaps the screaching was result of a stretched cable that was just barely clearing but now I believe the t/o bearing is well on its way out. Now at 79K, spoke with PO - the cable had never been replaced.
