Just to make things easier when talking about it.
What you put in the A/C system on a car is not called coolant, it is called R134a or more popularly called Freon.
But by using the word Freon all the time you might tick of some puritan linguistics since Freon is a trade name from DuPont for R12 which was the cooling media in older cars up until around 93-94.
But for now, the easiest is to call it Freon or R134a or cooling media or refrigerant.
Coolant (sometimes called antifreeze or Glycol) is what you pour into the engine cooling systems radiator or expansion tank.
So, recharging and finding leaks in the A/C system can sometimes be challenging and it might take two visits and sometimes 3 before all the leaks are found and repaired.
Each brand, each model, each year have their own weak spots so for a brand/model specialist it might be easier and faster to find and repair the problem compared to a general A/C repair shop that works on all cars coming through the door.
So if it would be a 94 and older 900 I would suspect the A/C dual hose coming from the compressor and if it was a 94 and up 900 I would suspect the high pressure hose from compressor to condenser as my first bet.
If a mid 90s Volvo 850 would come in with no external signs of leak, I would suspect the evaporator inside the dash board and so forth.
So the only way to find out about your car is to determine if the A/C system is in fact empty or if something else have failed not turning on the A/C compressor.
If it is empty, it might be easier to find the leak now since they added leak dye to the system and if they can't find any leaks in the engine compartment, it is a good guess that the evaporator in dash board is leaking.
