Can only give my opinion which you already know.
It is not needed from a certain VIN in 2001.
The engines so far from that VIN on that I have had to take the cylinder head off has all had bolts torqued down good and strong similar to pre 97 engines.
That doesn't mean though that the late 01 and up doesn't leak oil from that famous spot. So the properly torqued head bolts from late 01 and up did not necessarily fix the oil leak just like the PCV fix #6 didn't stop the oil leak on all cars either or the revamped PCV system on the 04 and up 9-5.
