not needed. It is a subjective assessment after all claimed by me. I remember the change in handling when I installed anti-roll bar. If you are driving all around 16 inches, by increasing to 17's just the rear you can have similar handling sensation as if you just got an anti-roll bar. Also, when accelerating push back is much reduced, which adds an increased responsiveness to general driving.
In city driving 17s front with high pressure is pretty devastating to the ride. 16s front make the ride a lot smoother and preserve the wheels better. High tire pressure with 16s on front is a great compromise in terms of handling and ride comfort.
I never mentioned this hybrid setup is superior to all 17s. Definitely all 17s will have better handling but also definitely poorer ride. This hybrid set up help with ride comfort for all 17 inchers without sacrificing handling that much and for all 16 inchers it will enhance handling dramatically in two distinctly positive ways.
