My 2001 9-3 came with Michelin Energy Plus tires. They did pretty well in the wet, slush, and occasional snow, especially the first 50K miles. I live in New England and have a older winter commuter car with Blizzacks on it, so I did not drive the 9-3 in the snow regularly, only now and then if commutor was being worked on, or when the roads were dry.
I did drive it once about 70 miles during a ski trip in VT right after an unforecasted storm dumped a foot +. I got high centered on my Uncle's dirt driveway due to drifts, but once I was pulled out with the tractor and onto paved roads, they did just fine on the barely plowed interstate and back roads all the way from White River Jnct. to Mad River Glen. I think we had to push the car a bit to get out of the parking lot due to the fact it was not plowed at all during the day. I know real snow tires would not have had a problem with that. Otherwise they gripped the wet slushy roads well that evening on the way to the next mtn.
After 74,000 miles, they still were not worn close to the wear bars. I just replaced them a month ago as they were over 8 years old and they started to crack and I thought it was best to get new tires. I bought the Michelin Primacy MXV4s, which seem to be the newest incarnation of the OEM tires. I was very happy with the original tires, so I decided the Primacy would be a good bet. Tirerack reviews also gave it a No.1 rank in its GT catagory. So far they seem to be quite similar to the OEM Michelins.
