TJ- The cowl really isn't hard to replace nor is the rubber gasket. In fact the rubber gasket is the easiest part of the whole deal.The only thing that held me up was the wipper arms. Make sure you have them in the bent postion as it releases pressure on the arm and allows them to be easly removed. Replace the filter with a NEW one. I'm sure you'll find your old one quite dirty. I noticed after I was finished that the old filter had a lip on one of the long sides.And has a half circle piece of plastic on the side opposite of the lip So pay attention to the front or rear as you take out the old filter. I may open mine again to check its postion.
