The idea that a single can of R134a is enough to charge any discharged AC system is the worst piece of misinformation I've read on this board. The only volume of refrigerant that is OK to put into the system is what the system calls for, and while one can is often enough to trigger the pressure switch and kick on the compressor of a discharged system, there are very few AC systems that can operate properly on a single can of refrigerant. To suggest otherwise could potentially lead somebody to damage their system. The only way to determine the proper volume of refrigerant is to use a pair of gauges to accurately measure the high and low pressure of the system. The fact that the author of this thread stated his system was charged two years ago should be enough to tell any experienced person that there is either a problem that needs to be investigated or somebody might be misinformed as to how to maintain their AC system. The fact that something has worked for you in the past is not justification to provide this type of misinformation. If this system is in fact leaking enough to require a recharge after only two years, there is a very good chance the system lubricant has been diminished or otherwise compromised, and that needs to be addressed along with the leak itself. Also, if the system is fully charged, and is possibly just not blowing cold enough there is potentially a separate issue that needs to be addressed rather than simply dumping more refrigerant into the system, which would result in damage.
