fluid leak identification

2002 9-3 may have a fluid leak visible as an occasional drip near the front passenger side tire. Collected a little in an aluminum pie pan. It's clear and has no discernible odor. Put a drop on a piece of white paper, bring inside and it dries out soon enough. The dried out paper then has a rough texture and little sparkles can be seen under a bright flashlight.
Are there any engine fluids that would dry out completely and leave little sparkles, or is this an obvious case of splashed salt water here in the snowy northeast?
Thanks
