I saw an ad for a similar year 'vert for $1,000 and claimed everything worked. Not sure if it was an SE or S, though.

I bought my '95 'vert for $500. It had been in a slow speed rear end accident. You'd never know it by looking at it. But, the turbo is nice, which is why I still have it. The suggestion to pass on a 'vert with problems is a good one. There is little the average mechanic can fix. There are no manuals, just the friendly folks here on Saabnet. Opening and closing the top manually really isn't an option either. It is a pain. You break a sweat, look like an idiot and you will swear like a sailor.

My other car is a '96 S. If it was me, I'd pass on a convertible and look for an nice SE. Especially it being your first Saab. If money is tight I'd look for a nice S. They can be found for under $1400. I buy Saabs now because I have learned how to fix them. You need to buy new tools and don't even get me started on the cost of parts from a dealer. It is a commitment.

---As an aside, I bought the convertible to part it out, not to keep it. Used parts for 'verts are expensive and harder to come by, so I can easily double my money. The plan now is to find a solid body to swap the engines.


Whichever you decide there is always someone here that has had the same issue. This is the best support group there is, well besides AAA.
