I'm looking over the printout of the quote the guy gave me and think I can bring down the price by hundreds of dollars by buying the parts from a cheaper place first. Here is the quote followed by my findings....
Cylinder Head Gasket Labor-----7.3hrs
Repair-----------------$95/hr----$693.50
Parts Quote My Findings
Cylinder Head
Gasket-----------------450.00---------52.43+13.96=66.39
Upper Radiator Hose----39.98----------28.81
Lower Radiator Hose----29.98----------Didn't see one......
Thermostat-------------32.98----------11.94
Spark Plugs x4---------35.92----------9.56
Head Repair------------350.00---------
Oil Change-------------59.98----------20.00
Coolant Change---------49.98 20.00
Water Pump----------------------------152.75
Total w labor----------1745.52--------1002.75
-The quote didn't have a water pump which I'm sure I'll need.
-I'm not sure if I'm correct about the new head gasket I found
-Another thing is that why would I buy a new gasket, and then the quote me another 350.00 for a repair. I remember them telling em that usually they just repair the head I have, and don't need to even put a new one on, so shouldn't it be one or the other?
I'm probably still pretty off with my calculations but I'm sure I'll save a lot of money by buying the parts myself, then having the mechanic put em on.
By the way anyone in the San Diego area know a reputable Saab mech?
