The Brembo and Zimmerman rotors do not have a protective coating and will rust. They are good rotors so I paint the metal that does not contact the disc area. I clean off the oil on the new rotors with brakekleen several times then do the same using lacquer thinner. I spray them with rust-oleum dark bronze hammered finish and let them dry for a few days before mounting. I lightly grease the hub and the wheel mounting surface. I have them on our 1996 900SE vert and 2003 9-5 AERO. They've been on for close to three years with no rust. This is an option that works for me.
The OEM rotors were plated. I think they have switched to paint.
I have not used the Centric rotors.
The Brembo and Zimmerman rotors are less expensive than the OEM.
