The switches pop out easy enough once you get the whole plastic surround off the door. Can't say for sure how to do this in a sedan because I've heard that piece is different in a 'vert. Once that's off, you'll see how the switch is held in by two metal clips. Squeeze them and either push the switch through or pull it out (forget). I took mine apart completely and sprayed contact cleaner around both switches.
I do believe the part may have changed at some point from a grease packed switch (older) to a mechanical switch with contact points (that's what mine was). Not sure how you'd clean the older switch if that's what the '99 still used.
