From what I remember, you can take the grille of the sensor off from the front. but to get at the sensor itself you have to get it from behind.

Instead of taking the whole console out you can get at it by removing the ACC so you can reach behind the console to get at the sensor. It looks like there are two friction fit "clips" that you have to squeeze together from the front for it to back out. Then you can just unclip the wires. and remove through the ACC hole.

I don't remember how the ACC pops out other than to pull the radio out and reach down to push the ACC out from behind. I assume you don't have the manual controls. If you do it is a real pain.

But to put back in, the sensor "plugs" back into to place or snaps into place and replace the little grille.

Holding the sensor, now, I would try a can of compressed air first to see if that cleans it up. The tiny squirrel cage fan is only about a half inch behind the red diode that is visible once you remove the grille.

You shouldn't have to remove it to clean it, only to replace it. Mine is from a car I parted out. Hence being able to look at it.

By the way, I believe the seat heater switch are removable from the front of the console. But don't quote me. I'm sure it is easier to push them out than to pull them.
