Hi, thanks for the info. I removed the retaining nut, and removed the outer plate on the clutch. Ther was one shim left. I removed it. reassembled everthing turns freely. no rubbing or binding. The intermitant problem is gone but I still have the grumble noise. I can see the outer pulley moving slightly in and out from the compressor. It only does this with the a/c on. What is behind the drive pulley?
