headliner rear d/s leak

97 900s 4 dr/hatch. So I have a leak, took off the rear d/s C panel and losened the headliner edge around the door and rear hatch (remove spkr cover too). At the sunroof tray I turn the O-clip and pull out the plastic nipple with the inner O-ring. I push a small hose thru to ensure the sunroof isnt clogged and later bow air thru the hose to be doubly sure its clear. I put silicone on the nipple's O-ring and on the outer barb for the hose that goes to the rear side of the trunk floor thru fitting. I also opened up the thru floor fitting to ensure the fitting's "+" flap wouldn't clog up with crud.
We had rain last nite and I still have a wet headliner - but no water in the trunk.
Car is parked relatively flat. Could it be that the r. windshield heater harness and/or the lights harness fitting that goes from the hatch thru the lip if the hatch frame is leaking??? but then how is it that the water travels UP (as in upstream) to come thru around the headliner button. Could it be capillary action in the foamy/clothy material of the headliner???
If somebody had this problem I'd appreciate any ideas as to whats happening and to fix it..
