Funny, I just did this last night on my '00 9-3 base auto. (trying to earn Karma points here...) I have a T7 and I think you may have a T5, but should be the same procedure. YMMV.

Not too bad. Here are some tips. Borrow a set of car ramps if you don't have them. You will be reaching up from underneath and the extra height helps. A shop light placed on top of the egine helps let you see.

On the top of the drivers side of the starter is an 18mm bolt. Get this one out first BEFORE YOU PUT IT UP ON THE RAMPS so you have access without getting a stepstool. It is accessed from the drivers side of the engine. I had to move a wire clamp (with 10mm socket wrench) out of the way to get to the bolt. I used all my socket extentions, an 18mm std height socket and a u-joint drive to get to the bolt. No room to swing an open end. I had about 2 feet of extentions. PITA

Put car on ramps.

Disconnect the battery!!!!!!! The +ve lead on the starter is energized even with the car OFF. Makes a really big spark if you short it (DAMHIKT)

Remove the large lead on the starter. 13mm nut.

Remove the lower starter mounting nut. 16mm nut. May need a deepwell socket here.

Get a 10mm wrench or socket ready. Gently remove the starter and cradle it in your hand. There is one more wire (10mm nut)to disconnect that can only be gotten to if you have the starter dangling.

Then jockey the starter through the openning on the passenger side of the cat. No need to remove the exhaust. Too much of a hassle esp with the sensors bolted to it.

Reverse for install. I had to remove mine to get to the stupid oil sender that was leaking pretty bad.

Good luck and write back to let us know how it went. Figure about an hour total at a leisurely pace....
