C900 or NG900? Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Wed, 13 Apr 2011 14:34:58 In Reply to: 900 v 9-3, Leslie, Wed, 13 Apr 2011 11:52:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm gonna' assume that your old 900 was a C900 or classic 900, 1980ish to 1993ish. The NG900 (New Generation 900 which began in 1994 and ran through 1998 is essentially the same car as the OG9-3, the ones from 1999-2002 that you are looking for.
I can't imagine any OG9-3 being less spritely than any old C900 as the OG9-3's are all turbos and have lots more power. So it's probably more a case of selective memory after 7 years.
One nice thing about the OG9-3's is that they have darn decent automatics, four speeds with lock up torque converters and sport modes as opposed to the slushy 3 speed autos in the C900's.
I'd recommend an OG9-3 with the premium package, an SE in the earlier years but not always the later ones which were all branded SE and the premium package was separate, the ones with digital climate control as opposed to the heating and vent knobs. Other nice stuff besides climate control including sometimes wood dash, power passenger seat, memory for the drivers seat and an upgraded stereo. Not a deal breaker, but the premium package is nice stuff.
And as a woman who knows nothing about cars I would hope you have pre-selected a good Saab mechanic you can trust. If you mention where you are I'm sure you'll get some good recommendations.
