I've had the front bumper off of my 1995 900S numerous times and the only electrical connections involved are for the foglamps and outdoor temp. sensor. Not sure where the airbag sensors are, but I suspect they're integral to the control module beneath the center console. It sounds to me like just the plastic bumper shell broke off of the metal bumper rail. I'm not sure how those are normally held together; normally, when you remove the bumper you just unbolt (2) bolts securing the bumper rail to the uniboby frame. There are several other screws to remove, but they're only holding plastic trim pieces together. Did you pop the grille out? It comes out easily by compressing the (2) spring clips on the top while lifting straight up. I would think that you could do a better job taping the bumper in place by removing the grill first.
