Really need some advice on alternator replace 2000 9-3 Posted by Nicholas [Email] (#2995) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nicholas) on Mon, 6 Jun 2011 22:21:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey All,
Awhile back, I posted out about a dying battery problem with my 2000 9-3. Well , after testing with a meter it seemed I only had about 11.5v at the battery terminals. Luckily , I was able to find a coupon deal at advance on a new alternator and I'm hoping it's the right one. I think it's the 90amp "basic" OEM replacement. I did this a few weeks ago and have been dreading doing the job based on what I've been reading. Since I can't afford a mechanic right now, I want to try this myself. I have done some fairly difficult repairs in the past, so I figure I can do it.
I've read some people take it from the top or bottom? I have an older version of WIS which calls the alternator a "generator" on the 99. I printed up everything I could find and I'm assuming the 99 is the same as the 2000 with regard to the alternator? At any rate, it would be great if anyone could give me any rec on technique for this SAAB. Also, I don't want to damage any other parts and I wasn't planning on replacing the idler pulley (do I have to?) Oh well, I guess that's about it :) Thanks much for any help!
