We too are red for red, black for black. Simply put. The blue unit is a Saab Tech shelf test unit for the red t-5 IDM. Will find a hole drilled out on the top for a pegboard mount.
The knock signals are different and logic of sorts between how T-5 and T-7 interpret the engine knock signal from the IDM. Just because your engine runs, does not mean it is running correctly.
With the price of the red units dropping slightly and the black units increasing greatly, there is only now a $33 difference between the units now (red $433; black $399.56)
Take the chance, your engine, you car, but if the units were interchangeable im sure Saab would have superseded the part numbers together and everyone would be same IDM.
