Don't know other posts, including a follow up from the orginal other that use 5w40 stated that you should use the OEM stuff.
Some one said something about stability over time, with the OEM being better. It has been at least 5 years, since I added the 5W30 synthetic oil. The original stuff lasted about 7 years. I don't know what happens to the oild, as I can not find any leaks. I takes probably about 3/4 cup of oil to get the system working again. I did just add oil (same stuff)to see if it would work and the top works great again. If there is a chance I will kill the system with the oil I am using then I would rather not take the chance. So I do not know why,
