Hi
You may recall, I had some electrical problems on this car. Those have been resolved (I hope). One remaining problem is my driver's seatbelt. It has retracted and will not pull out. I have removed the rear panel that covers the seat belt (see my photos). I was hoping it was going to be a simple tangled belt or something simple. In talking with my Saab mechanic he noted that the mechanism needs to be replaced. As I looked at it I noticed that there is a curious device behind the seatbelt and also attached to the mechanism. (see stock photo from part supplier).
There is this tubular shaped device which also has a wire connected to it (I assume to activate the put seatbelt on warning light on the dashboard). Does it do anything else (could my seatbelt failure be related to my electrical problems ? (included airbag being non-functional)
This tubular device has a Safety Warning on it in French which translates to "Safety Advice Do not open, remove or place n another vehicle Risk of malfunction and injury See the users manual for more information."
What is this device? If I get another seatbelt with this device, will it not work? How can this be mated to my car?
Does this require some dealer "magic" to resolve my seatbelt problem? Replacing of the seatbelt seems do-able but this device seems to complicate everything?
Please advise. Has anyone done this?
Thank you.
