I wonder if your purge valve is sticking open. It might run rich that way until the fuel level dropped and then it would run lean. I suppose it could be a problem with the venturi on the fuel pump cannister. The return line from the fuel rail back to the tank passes through a venturi that keeps the fuel pump cannister full. Since you have a V6 there is a schraeder valve on the fuel rail and it's fairly easy to hook up a fuel pressure guage.
