Change the oil, see how much comes out. Refill. Let it sit overnight, then check the level. The next day take a drive and see if it stays reasonably high after 20-30 miles. You need to know if you have a major leak. If not, Then track the level every day and see if it's dropping and how fast. You either have a leak, or it's burning up. You can figure out which once you veryify the consumption rate. Meanwhile, look everywhere externally for leaks after the car sits overnight, and after it runs hot and is parked.
If there's no external leak, the next step will be to start doing compression tests and checking other components such as the turbo seals. You probably will need to drop the pan and check for sludge - running an engine low on oil can clog the screen. If it was really almost out, you may have done major engine damage. But, start with an oil change and work from there. Maybe it's your lucky day.
