What really causes my car not to shift into reverse ? Posted by Nicholas [Email] (#2995) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nicholas) on Tue, 7 Feb 2012 20:23:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Been this way for a long time. I believe even before I rebuilt the engine. I've had some problems with the linkage, and have adjusted it several times. Beyond that, I don't know how to check it for damage. After recent adjustment , and before that, the car always shifts well into all the other gears.
I've asked about this problem before , and not gotten any clear answers. Some have said they just put up with the problem, as I have done. However, during a tight u-turn the other day I almost got stuck in front of speeding traffic because the car won't go in reverse when rolling forward. Somehow I hit the brakes and slid it just right and popped in reverse. Usually I'm not so lucky, and this makes the car more exhausting to drive.
Thanks for any advice or ideas on this. Even if it's something crazy like buying a new linkage and installing it, I'd still like to know where the problem is or how to find out. This is a 2000 9-3 (standard)
