GM has a legal obligation to pay for any warranty/recall work for Saabs purchased previous to the Spyker sale under Federal Law and most State's laws. This fact was reinforced in the bailout agreement which specifically identified the warranty obligations GM would be required to continue to fulfill. All Saab dealers on the planet could vanish tomorrow and GM would STILL be required to cover warranty repairs and recalls. GM has the obligation, not some particular brand they sell.
That said, they can make up any rules they want. They can say "you must get it repaired on a Tuesday at these 12 locations in the USA". Short of someone bringing a lawsuit, that is. Now, were they to do something as restrictive as I suggested, the state's Attorney General's would act and some class action suits would appear in no time. Massive negative publicity would force GM to change - or the courts would. If they take a less radical step - such as REQUIRING people like you to drive five hours to a dealer for covered repairs, I think we'll see the same sort of legal action. But, nothing is going to happen until the Saab bankruptcy settles out. Then the lawyers and attorney generals can start arguing. Until then, or unless you want to start your own class action, you're stuck.
