Anders, it doesn't crunch, it just feels like it's blocked; I'm lucky to get back about an inch and it won't go further. It'll go in smoothly when the engine is off. Could a fluid change help? The mechanics put in Royal Purple. Figure I can just do a flush and replace with Redline in a couple weeks after I move (and get a garage yay!)

Erik, I've tried putting it in first but not second then directly to reverse. Still the same blocked feeling (not even engaging or crunching). I'm starting to think it's an internal issue (fork or syncro or something).

The cable seems to be adjusted correctly--I get every other gear perfectly (I did get occasional crunching in 3rd and 5th gear but I figured it had to do with the old style linkage). Again, I won't get the car back (with the updated shifter linkage and the short shifter) until tomorrow morning. If there are any changes from my last attempts I will report back then. Thanks for your help!
