I believe there is a little bit of incorrect information on this topic. Maybe an expert can chime in and set the record straight for us??

Here are my thoughts on it:

Slave:
When filling a fresh slave before installing the transmission, you compress the slave, attach a clear hose to the fitting on the top of the transmission, fill with fluid, then pressurize slightly expanding the slave. Repeat until you don't see air bubbles. The design of the slave ensures that any air will be at the top and will escape the slave during normal operation of the slave. Hence the bleeder at the top of the transmission. So to bleed the slave INSTALLED, you would first ensure the master is bled, then depress the pedal, hold for a while, then release the bleeder valve. The pressure plate will force the slave back, expelling any air.

Master:
I think this is where things go sideways. If there is air in the master or the line between the master and the bleeder valve, then following the above procedure will inject air into the slave/line. Because the line is not a straight shot, it is tricky to get ALL the air out, so you continually inject SOME air into the slave and the line above the slave, making slow progress or even backwards if the slave was already bled. You are forcing air bubbles down the line, then they try to work their way back up, etc. So the proper procedure would be to bench-bleed the master FIRST.
You can also power bleed or pressure bleed the master using various methods, such as attaching things to the cap, etc., which I personally have not done with this car.

Since the master shares the same fluid as the brakes, there must be a safety mechanism to prevent total fluid loss if the clutch line breaks. So I believe this is why the air cannot work itself out of the master with the clutch pedal at the resting position. So a concrete block or something else to hold the pedal partially engaged will allow air to slowly escape from the master, in a sense bleeding the master.

Anyway, that's my take on it...
