Time for a new clutch: Tips, advice greatly appreciated Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Sun, 10 Mar 2013 19:10:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My JZW tune is getting the best of my clutch and it's going downhill fast, so here goes another project. It's on an 02 Viggen, and I'm curious about two main things:
1. The best way to remove the engine and transmission. I know a guy who has a two post lift, so I am considering dropping it out the bottom this way. However, I'm not crazy about dragging all the necessary tools to this guys house and making multiple trips out there, possibly around his schedule.
I'm wondering about progressively jacking my car up in the garage and ending up on really tall jack stands, then lowering the engine/trans. I don't think I could realistically get the car high enough to clear the engine, but perhaps enough just to clear the trans from the bottom of the car and remove it?
2. What else should I do while I'm down there? I am considering the water pump, but I've done it before in the car (on a 9-5) and it really wasn't the end of the world. I feel I could just take care of that when it actually goes out. I have a leaky rear main, so I'll be doing that. My oil pan is most likely squeaky clean because I've checked it with a coat hanger and found nothing, plus the car has had 3,000 mile synthetic oil changes and the latest PCV kit. I'm not really sure there's anything else that's terribly hard to get at that is suspect to fail at my current mileage and age, but if there is, let me know so I can get at it while it's much easier!
Thanks guys!
