If your CPS is starting to fail, it will eventually fail. When it fails, the symptom is the car may run OK, but a bit rough....but if you stop at a store or some place for a few minutes and try and restart the engine when it is still hot, it will crank but not start. Once the engine cools down, then you can start again. This can be frustrating if you get stuck somewhere running a series of errands. The problem is when the CPS fails is that heat from the engine causes contacts in the sensor to expand.
Getting a new CPS installed is not a lot of work for your indie mechanic with a lift. The part itself costs about $70 so it would be that plus labor...probably 30 minutes of labor once the engine cools down.
